John and Alva O'Neill to be honored. The Village Foundation will host its annual ceremony to install and dedicate a permanent bronze plaque honoring the founders of Bradley Bay Health Center, John and Alva O'Neill. The Bay High String Quartet under the direction of Ms. Carrie Singular, will play; and, tenor, Troy Ayers II will sing. The Foundation will also announce the winners and award four grants during the program. The ceremony will take place in Cahoon Park at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Memorial Day across the street from the Gazebo under the white tent immediately following the Memorial Day Service. Friends of the O'Neill's and the public are invited to attend the annual ceremony and to view the plaques currently installed on the footbridge.
2010, the 200th anniversary of the founding of Bay Village, would be an excellent time for a family to honor family or friends with a plaque. The Village Foundation bronze plaque program was established as a way for families and friends to give permanent recognition to Bay citizens in one central place. Donors that contribute at the level of $2500 or more may request a plaque to honor the life work of Bay Village residents living or dead.
Each year, interest earned on contributed funds is awarded to tax exempt community groups for projects. Proposals are submitted to The Village Foundation grants committee. The selected proposals are presented to the Board for approval at the annual meeting in May. Priority is given to groups working on projects that offer permanent improvements to the quality of life in Bay; and, that are not otherwise funded by taxes. Proposals are accepted and the plaques may be ordered anytime before April 20, 2010 to considered for the 2010 program. Those wishing to plan a family event around the presentation of the plaque in 2010 may do so at any time.
